Internet Explorer 7 or 8 on a Windows 7 PC

A piece of software that we use only works on IE versions below IE9. We have just upgraded the user to Windows 7 not realising this, is there anyway we can use IE 7 or IE 8 on Win7?

Yes, just don't upgrade to IE9 from IE8. (Or reinstall 8 if they came with it).

When I try and Install 8, it says that this version of IE is not suppported for this operating system

What version did you download?

 

You should just be able to uninstall IE9, and reboot. IE8 is the default that comes with Win7 (Unless it's been changed)

Shouldn't be, we're still using IE8 sitewide. I believe most new computers come with IE9 installed probably as part of the SP1 updates, but you should be able to remove it still, or just install non-SP1, install IE8 (As part of Windows install) then deny the IE9 upgrade update while doing SP1. Could well have changed I guess for brand new pcs.

 

*Edit - Did you have a look in the installed updates page to see if it's in there, if so it can be removed etc.

It is one of those programs which is just a collection of webpages? What's it called?

A much better option would be to keep IE9 installed, but make the program run in IE7 or IE8 compatibility mode. I'll see if I can find a link which explains how to do this.

Does the software not run on the likes of Chrome or Firefox which you could install?

Don't compromise the security of your network by trying to go back to 7 or 8 for the sake of one piece of software.

What particular part isn't working - does it refuse to even start without the older versions installed? Or is it just not displaying correct, something that could be helped with a few settings changes.
