SkyDrive for Network Users

Hi,

 

Anyone know if it is possible to deploy SkyDrive (easy enough) to machines and then when a user logs in with their username it maps the drive? I can map the network drive without any issues but it doesn't seem to accept %username%. I realise each user has to have a SkyDrive setup.

 

Anyone know of a way to mass setup SkyDrives accounts?

Nope, its not easy at all.

 

It did used to be possible to map it to a local drive but was a right pain to setup.

 

With Microsoft discontinuing it for Office 365 I kinda gave up on the idea. They now expect you to use sharepoint instead

I really hope Microsoft are not getting rid of SkyDrive - we use it as a family based cloud solution for our photos.

Its still available for personal live accounts, just not with Office 365 any more.

Their new thing with office 2013 is sky drive pro which ties into SharePoint. You can also just map a sky drive collection page as a drive. Sky drive is consumer focused and they'll probably drop it eventually it to unify with pro at some inoppertune time that suites balmernomicly.

 

It's reinvention should be a way off though as it's tied into Windows 8.

Ah - the joys of the cloud - "we are withdrawing this service - tough".

 

I've been discovering the joys of ownCloud. Very easy to set-up and use and usefully for a school, intergrates with AD. For home I run a small ubuntu server which now hosts a copy (backup) of my data.

Skydrive pro is the new o365 feature coming, I thought it would work just like skydrive now but with federation etc.

I have had a play with the beta but not extensively (thanks @EduTech) recently.

You can create a beta account to have a play for free, all the data gets wiped when it ends.
