VLAN'ing a CC4 Network

Afternoon,

 

Just wondered if anyone using RM CC4 has split their physical into VLANS e.g. curriculum and admin, just wondered how if attempting this would affect running of the RMMC, rebuilding workstations etc. New to VLAN'ing so just trying to get my head around it all lol.

Never really seen the point of vlaning our curriculum / admin network (it is as one).

 

We don't have any issues with speeds and the permissions are pretty secure.

 

We do however have seperate VLAN's for our CCTV, Wireless, Cashless catering to try and keep the traffic down as little as possible.

Thanks for the response. When we are gradually bringing our admin into CC4 land, (when we had CC3, we left them outside on Vanilla machines). As an all girls school here, we have only suffered a handle of data storms over the years, when staff have accidently created a loop by placing loose patch cables back into a vacant socket. Maybe there is no real need and may add unneccesary complexity to our network then lol.

We have CC4 with 4 x VLANs (3 for each one of the school buildings + 1 VLAN where all the VMs are connected). I used a HP 2910 to do that, making all the vlans /24 apart from a particular building where is /23 du to big numbers of PCs and labs we have. Broadcast is not an issue anymore and the PCs can breath on their own subnet

 

CC4 works well on VLANs but (and it is a big BUT) the build disk would be unable to find the DHCP server outside its subnet. We solve this problem by creating an individual DHCP server on each one of the subnet. I did that with a single ESX host with 3 x nic, one for each vlan
