New logon screen

Is there any way in a vanilla Win2k3 server network to change the logon screen on client machines running XP Pro SP2? That is I assume third party software will necessary, has anyone else tried this and what do you recommend. Its mostly as I want rid of the "login under a dialup connection" and other options aswell that have no use to the clients. thnx

I'm not sure, but can't you hide those options through Group Policy?

I did try FrontMotion Login, which looked quite cool, and it's flash based, so you can design your own. However it crashed my PC a few times while testing, so I ditched it.

Yes you can remove the "Shut Down" button but not the login under a dialup connection setting. Anyway I would like to give them a whole new UI for simplicity.

nice link SYSMAN_MK will try that out later, though I'd still prefer a new GUI for the users as one thingthey do is move the logon screen off screen by pulling it from its top corener, so just a blank screen is shown and I'd like to prevent that

I've had more of a look into it and it can be done by editing the msgina.dll file

Altering the standard MS Windows GINA (e.g. with a hex editor) is not allowed due to the EULA.

 

There's nothing to stop you replacing it entirely though.

I had a quick look at the full one at home, and it wouldn't authenticate against the domain.

Luckily I could get into the registry remotely to remove the key to load it as it still loaded in safe mode.

 

I just edited the existing msgina.dll by opening it with visual studio and changing the bitmaps. If it's against the EULA, I'd better not roll it out at work!
