Key Management Service Is Unavailable

Hi all

I have just started my first IT Job in a school which is run by myself and one other chap. My job tends to involve doing the more basic stuff like fixing printers and repairing work stations etc with my colleague doing the majority of the networking side of things while teaching me what he knows. The hitch in all this is that my colleague is off ill for the next week. I have just finish repair a class room machine and when it booted it displays windows is not genuine now this is a fairly common issue within the network apparently and have been told to fix it by doing the following in cmd as administrator.

[color=red][font=Calibri]Slmgr /skms  SERVER NAME

When i do this it displays the following:

Now at this point i am stuck if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

can you ping the DC by name?

 

Is your login a domain admin?

Hi rob i'm signed in as the domain admin and the DC can be pinged by name. Someone suggested a key could be assigned by something called mak is this a posibility i'm about to have another look as i have a free half hour.

have you opened the ports on the server firewall, sometimes it does not do it automaticly.

has a kind soul installed Windows using a KMS key, as i have found this then causes that machine to publish to DNS as a host

Hi, Ensure you allow all required services through the firewall on both the server and the target PC, install VAMT2 from microsoft and find the target PC using VAMT2 and activate it via the VAMT2 console.

 

easy peasy.

 

VAMT will run on XP,Win7 or your server.
