Hi I'm not sure if this is in the right section but we have just setup a year group with office 365 for education accounts which has a one drive built in I was wondering if there was a way of having the one drive as a mapped drive within Windows 7, mainly just for ease of access for the students. If anyone has done this or knows how to do this any advice would be appreciated Thanks Dale

Hi I have been following the HAP+ install instructions and got to the stage where you go /setup.aspx in the webbrowser and the setup page appears with a weird format/layout error as seen in the picture attached. Yes the school provide laptops for the students in year 7 & 8 as a reward if they have been looking after there computers and keeping to the rules etc we allow it but any abuse of it and we turn it off again!

Hi all I'm having an issue with some of our student laptops, it was coming up that the units weren't activated so we sorted that by reactivating them using the "slmgr" commands in command prompt. But since reactivating the units the students are complaining that they cant change they're desktop backgrounds. Ive checked the GPO and nothing has changed since before the reactivation when they were aloud to right click on images and choose "set as background". The option is there for them to do it just doesn't apply. If anyone has any suggestions id appreciate it. thanks Dale

Hi All A member of staff came up to me today and mentioned that at a previous school they had a system that when the staff log on to a machine it flashes up with a message if there's any urgent news or notices and on the message is button that you can click and it takes you to a more in depth notice. In this instance the member of staff wants it for pastoral updates, i was wondering if anyone had a system like this or similar in place and could advise me on how to go about setting something like this up. Any Advice would be appreciated Dale

Hi All I was wondering if anyone has successfully installed 2012 server on a pre gen 8 HP server. If so how have you done it, ive seen a few things online about it but no definitive answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated Dale

Hi all We are having a few issues with our iMacs running the latest version of mavericks. What happens is that when ever a domain account logs in an error comes up saying various different things can't access the the login keychain and prompts them for a password but the only password that works is the local admin account and not there password. Reading up it does seem that its quite a common issue with mavericks but all the fixes people have recommended don't seem to work. i have gone into the keychain library and deleted the folder as apple themselves suggest and that didn't work, I have tried deleteing the login key chain so as the user logs in it creates a new one that didn't work so finally i ran keychain first aid and that didn't do anything so now i am at a bit of a loss. If anyone has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it Many Thanks Dale

Hi guys Our network here is having major issues and is looking like we may need to start from scratch due to either a Dns or ad issue. We have started on the rebuild i have been given the task of trying to recover all the staff mailbox data. My issue is that i have tried to get into the management shell to try and use the mailbox export request, but as soon as i fire up exchange management shell i get the following error: Gyazo - 09bc219169b3da055e7f60eb025984b0.png So from here i tried to access the normal GUI management console and i get the following error: Gyazo - a658ed55965fe04da14b1a554039752c.png So In summary i'd like to get into some sort of management tool and export the users mailboxes to a .pst file. Hi all I have a user who has nearly 5000 junk emails and doesnt want to empty them even after being reminded. Is there a way of emptying the users junk mail from the exchange management console? Dale

Hi All I was wondering if anyone has managed to get a bring your own device setup running so that IOS and other mobile apps work when going through the smoothwall Apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook mobile etc do not work the ordinary web browser works fine but staff have been complaining that they mainly use whatsapp, so as mobile apps are becoming increasingly popular with staff we feel we need to get this sorted. Any help would be greatly appreciated Dale

The previous tech team where i am placed laptops in each room but we have now put desktops in and for the most part the responce has beeen postive as the desktops are alot faster and they looka bit more profestional. SLT & Heads of dept get given a laptop that can be used how they want at work or home. the old laptops will be offered to staff for a small contribution.

Hi guys I have been roped into taking photos for the school leavers party disco thing. But as with most things there's a catch what they want is a sectioned off "photobooth" area, with the photos i am taking to be displayed in a slideshow as they are being taken. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how i would go about doing this without stopping every so often to transfer files to the laptop. I will have a laptop with me connected up so maybe there's a bit of software that allows me to connect my camera via usb? Any help would be appreciated

We tend to go for toshiba as in experience at least they tend to last a good while and perform well. The only issue we had was with a singular batch of C660's hard drives failing, But we had some money in the budget so we put 128gb san disk ssd's in them and now they fly. But if your after somthing a bit more portable we have just got a Lenovo x131e in to test as in September the new year 7's get a laptop each and we have been trying to find something that's ultra rugged but still portable and so far these seem to fit the bill.

It was crazy it was a fire waiting to happen so the first chance we had we gutted it and its now 100% better. Not only was it a fire waiting to happen it was also causing lots of CRC errors on switch. Since we got rid of them last week we have had no errors occur. Just out of curiosity i priced up how much 15 sonic wall gigabit injectors would cost and it came in at nearly double the price of a 24 port POE HP switch we put in.

The thing is these were for the phones and few AP's and there's POE switches in all the other building for our wireless AP's. This was in the main server room our core switch doesn't support POE but we have now done an up link to a POE switch with enough ports for the phones and it looks a lot tidier than 15 injectors and two extension leads screwed to a bit of chip board! I wasn't saying that injectors were bad just having them in such high numbers when they could of spent half the amount of money and had a neater more manageable solution!

As the title suggests i was wondering if anyone has ever encountered POE injectors in with the switch and patch panel? We are still trying to work out they didn't put in a POE switch in (which we have now done) or put the injectors in at the desks.

Hi all I have just started my first IT Job in a school which is run by myself and one other chap. My job tends to involve doing the more basic stuff like fixing printers and repairing work stations etc with my colleague doing the majority of the networking side of things while teaching me what he knows. The hitch in all this is that my colleague is off ill for the next week. I have just finish repair a class room machine and when it booted it displays windows is not genuine now this is a fairly common issue within the network apparently and have been told to fix it by doing the following in cmd as administrator.
