bunny Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I have a bunch of new workstations to roll out at school next week, and coincidentally SIMS is being installed on our new server. Would I be right in thinking that the install files for sims.net should be available on the server, and I won't need a) install disks or b) a Capita technician to do it for me (as has been implied!) Many thanks
sparkeh Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 No they don't need to do that for you. As its a new install you can use SOLUS3 to install to the workstations (if it works ). We still have SOLUS2 so I either run simsinst.exe or the individual installers from the setups folder or roll the installers out with SCCM. 1
bunny Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 Brilliant, thanks. I've emailed them to say I am expecting the install files to be made available (actually we have SOLUS3 on our old server, I guess I could use that - I am new to this educational IT malarky! ) Thanks again

Many thanks Sounds like Capita trying to make a quick bit of cash! I wonder how much they charge to install SIMS onto some workstations! Like @sparkeh says, SOLUS3 can be used. We've found SOLUS3 works well in new environments with all new workstations. Failing that, I;d assume you would have the old SOLUS2 setups folder kicking about on your server. 1
vikpaw Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 You don't really need them to install the server! If they are doing it, make sure they install and configure SOLUS3 for you, and that will moot their argument with regards charging for client installs! 1
Tat Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 @bunny, can I ask what sort of costs were/are involved?
GREED Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You don't really need them to install the server! Oh those were the days @vikpaw Lost count of how many times I installed the SIMS server!
vikpaw Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Oh those were the days @vikpaw Lost count of how many times I installed the SIMS server! I was your padawan in those days - at least for installing SIMS Server
GREED Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 In those days you were but the learner.... now you are the master! Reference to you still being on the 'Dark Side' hehe!
Edu-IT Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Brilliant, thanks.
