Hi all

I am after someones advice (i as i don't know alot about fibre) on whether sfp transceivers are plug and play with the switch above ( dlink dgs-1210-24) or do u have to do some special configuration with them so they work. As i want to be able to send Vlan data of these links to. If you could let me know which ones are the best ones and what will be compatiable to use.

Thanks

Nathan

I don't have the exact same model D-Link but I have found any SFPs work with them. We have D-Link, HP and Netgear (mostly these) SFP modules working with ours.

Yep, you can sometimes get them free with switches though, and if you buy a few switches at once get your reseller to ask the manufacturer to throw them in. I think we have about 40 of them in total here probably more and I have paid for about 10.

I agree with previous comments - SFPs 99% of the time are plug and play, but if it's a managed switch the SFP ports can be enabled/disabled or have a forced speed configuration etc.. to watch out for. You also need to buy suitable cabling. OM3 is generally recommended these days.

I agree also you'd still need to setup VLANs manually as required.

How many are you after Nathan, We've recently upgraded a lot of our d-link stuff to cisco and have a number of mods and switches sat on a shelf that we could flog you :)
