Rawns Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 "And lo, Steam came forth and said "For your hard earnt cash, I shall shower you in discounts" and the sale began..." 1
Fleetwood Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) I knew a thread for this was going to appear, I knew it'd be you that would post it an' all! Gosh Very good bargains, and this is running all the way to January 5th! FML, I might as well my goodbyes to my wallet/payday coming up. The only thing I ever hate with these sales is I'll buy the game when it's discounted for say 15%. A few days later I'll see the sodding thing again for 50% off. asjgh!$^%^(# Edited December 20, 2012 by Fleetwood

Plus when I'm not looking on steam, I can see the highlights on here when people post what's hot and whats not! Plus it's a time to post quality steam sale related images! Fleetwood Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) To be fair I'm grateful that you do, I always forget to actually open the client and check the Store page - usually I just open the games direct from the icon. D'oh. Very true, there are many in the world! I'm liking the look of Dishonoured, still not sure if I want to pay that much for it though.. Edited December 20, 2012 by Fleetwood
Rawns Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 For £3.74, Mirrors Edge is well worth a punt. ARMA2:CO at £14 quid, ideal of anyone whos not experienced DayZ. Plus ARMA2 is a awesome game on its own!
Fleetwood Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Literally just bought that! always been curious about it but never thought it was worth the RRP, glad I waited. 15 quid for Hitman: Absolution seems very tempting, too.
localzuk Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I'm interested in the Linux games personally! Just wish I wasn't skint until payday!!
Fleetwood Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I'm interested in the Linux games personally! Just wish I wasn't skint until payday!! Why not 'sell' some of 'those' steam 'games' you never 'play' despite 'always' telling yourself you 'will' play them 'eventuall--.. I can see that murderous look on your face behind that monitor, I shall stop doing 'that thing' to words (nice thread about it, by the way.) - How about sell your body?* * Don't do that, that's bad. All I can say is, thank the lord I don't have an overdraft. Means I'm always in the safe-zone, bitchessssss

Fleetwood Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) How's the Steam linux beta going? Edited December 20, 2012 by Fleetwood Sentence didn't make sense. iDerp
Rawns Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 I'm interested in the Linux games personally! Just wish I wasn't skint until payday!! In case your not aware, the Steam Linux Beta went public yesterday: Steam Community :: Group Announcements :: Linux Beta Access Not sure what the game quanity/quality is like on the platform, but must be a step in the right direction for Linux/Steam fans!
localzuk Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 How's the Steam linux beta going? Well, Linux Mint 14 with Cinnamon has some issues with it (those issues being constant crashing... so kinda big issues). If I use Gnome Classic instead, it works fine though. I've got 6 games from prior purchases that are available via Steam on Linux too. Its also only 32bit though at the moment which is a bit annoying as it means you end up having to have both 64bit and 32bit architecture repos in your apt sources list.
Rawns Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 ignore previous post, you obviously are aware!

Oh, I know. There's around 39 games and DLC packs for linux at the moment. With more appearing constantly - as there were only about a dozen a couple of weeks ago. There are also some issues with mulit-display systems, namely that while Steam has improved its support, some games will really mess up on a dual screen system - as graphics is handled by the individual game rather than an underlying graphics system. There is some work going on though to move the handling into Window Managers instead, so the games just use a common API instead of whatever individual methods they've come up with. Either way, with a Linux powered Steam 'console' of sorts in the pipeline, I'm sure Valve will be pumping a vast amount of resources into active development into the Linux environment which can only be a good thing.
localzuk Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Either way, with a Linux powered Steam 'console' of sorts in the pipeline, I'm sure Valve will be pumping a vast amount of resources into active development into the Linux environment which can only be a good thing. I saw an article recently that a significant number of existing Linux ports of Windows games were ported by one guy! He worked with the Humble Bundle guys to do a lot of the Linux ports for them for example. He was the guy who was in charge of Quake 3 for Linux, and Unreal Tournament 2003 for Linux. He also mentioned how at Blizzard, the team to keep the OS X port of WoW is tiny, like 3 people sort of size. His point in the article was that the effort required to port games is actually pretty minimal, as the grunt work has been done already, writing the game. It can even be made simpler if everyone works from the initial position of writing portable code in the first place. So, I'm looking forward to a boom in Linux games. My life will be complete when there's an Anno game in Linux.
Garacesh Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Bought Mirrors Edge last year. Had it on Xbox, it was brilliant, saw it on PC and couldn't pass it up. Glad it's on sale again as I've recommended it to friends who said they might pick it up. Not that impressed with Day1 myself. Raised an eyebrow at the Prince of Persia set, but I only really liked the first one. 2 and 3 were.. 'eh. Not bad, not great. Haven't played the fourth.

Garacesh Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Of course not. What do you take me for? Old? Although, Sands of Time did amusingly have a re-make of a the (actual) first Prince of Persia's first level in it.
featured_spectre Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Arma 2 would be the only one I would consider, but I have to be frugal for the moment.
CAM Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I found Kubuntu 12.04 with all compositing effects disabled to be quite reliable for the Linux Beta. Just got to put up with Jockey crashing until you run post-install updates. 12.10 was OK but suffered from micro-stutter in every game.
Rawns Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 I presume Valve have their standard "flagship" games available on Linux? Half-Life 2, TF2, L4D etc?
localzuk Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I presume Valve have their standard "flagship" games available on Linux? Half-Life 2, TF2, L4D etc? Not all of them yet. TF2 is, Killing Floor is, don't think they all are though yet. They're working on them!
Rawns Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Ahhhh, Killing Floor. Many an hour wasted on it while screaming "Die zombie mutant scum!"
