Hello,

I have recently installed DeployStudio Server onto our OS X Lion server and I am taking a master image from one of our Mac Book Pro's. I am currently using NetBoot to start the DeployStudio Runtime, this is working as expected.

My question is how long should it take to pull a master image from the mac book to the server? It is currently showing 500 minutes remaining, this seems a bit too long. What sort of times are you guys getting when taking a master image?

I have tried using a tmp folder for the image and also straight to the server however each method reports around 500 minutes to take the image.

Any feedback would be appreciated. :)

Many thanks,

Mike

Hmmmmm, my images take around 2 hours to send back to the server (I actually send them to an ext attached to the server), we do have a 10GB backbone though...

Ok, so maybe 8 hours is to be expected from our setup then. I am currently getting between 8-10MB/s upload to the server which is on the other side of the site. I may try imaging one of the iMac's which are connected to the same switch as the server and see if they image any quicker.

Thanks for your reply.

The macbook is pretty much a fresh install of Lion, it's really only used for screen sharing from our office to the mac suite.

I have started pulling an image from one of the iMac's and it's showing around 40 minutes so I guess it's the connection from the office to the mac suite causing the very slow imaging times.

Thanks for your help.

Keep in mind your images are compressed. Once the computer creates a compressed image it will upload to the server. I have gig switches throughout and the upload doesn't take too long, maybe 30-40mins after it has been compressed on the computer. That said my main image is 98GB's and once compressed it is around 69GB. I can image one computer with this 98GB image in about 20mins but a lab will take a good evening once the server hits it's peak bandwidth output at around 65-70MB/sec.
