Specsavers free eye test

I'm due an eye test and have just received a, offer from Specsavers through the post. It's a free eye test voucher, although it is a little scarce on details, so, if any of you have used this offer in the past what I want to know is:

 

1. Are they 'no obligation' i.e. you don't have to buy any glasses from them?

2. Do you get a prescription from it?

3. Are there any hidden catches?

 

I'm only asking because The voucher runs out next month, but I don't want to be buying any new glasses until after Christmas (for obvious reasons).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've had a few of those before and used them, It is literally an eye test though. No glasses or anything. Those obviously is where they make the monies.

 

In all fairness never tried not to buy glasses at same time, as whenever I go I get new ones

I've never been told I need glasses at the eye tests I've gone to. 25 years of being abused by VDUs and 20/20 vision.

 

Then again, the last opticians I went to smelled a bit foody, and the bloke that helped me was called Ronald McDonald. I suspected I needed glasses but something called a "mcflurry" solved that requirement.

I use the voucher when I get it and go have the free eye test. If they say I need a change to my prescription I then go to Boots and get checked there as well & usually end up buying new lenses from them as they are cheaper.

You can get free eye tests anyway from work. If you use computer as part of your job, your employer has to pay for your eye tests. See the health and safety executive.

I'm a Specsavers customer and get my test free anyway (awful sight). The last one was from an old duffer who maybe needs to get his own eyes checked - he put down the wrong prescription (put one side as +ive and the other -ive) and ticked the box for "reason for free test" next to "prisoner on day release"...

You do from Specsavers. I believe that they HAVE to provide you with one on request.

Ask them for your pupillary distance as well if possible allthough this normally isn't measured unless you are getting glasses at the same time as it's done by the dipensers. It doesn't have to legally be on your prescription but if you know what it is then you can buy glasses or sunglasses etc.... online.

 

You can also get apps or measure it yourself with some help.
