Replacing a Sky box

I have Sky+ (Amstrad) box which although working does play up at times and I have seen a cheap second hand HD Sky box for sale. Knowing Sky it surely cant be a simple swap, so has anyone done it and if so what do I have to do? Not bothered about subscribing to HD just using current subscription, but would I be able to get the free HD channels like BBC HD?

You should kick up a fuss with them. I did it for a friend and they replaced the box for free with a new one.

You just buy the second hand box... plug it in and call customer services. Simples. (HD won't work on Sky channels unless you pay extra though)

Similar to hers. It will also depend on who you speak to. It took me 20 mins of moaing but i got what i wanted in the end.

Hey, its simple all you have to do is get the box off ebay swap your card over and phone sky they will ask for your card number and box number which you can find in the settings and within 5 mins it will be active.

I'd echo this. If you're a good customer then they do sometimes help out. Or at least offer heavily discounted boxes.

 

I have a standard Sky Box you could buy if you're interested? Would probably only ask you to cover postage as it's in the loft collecting dust. But if you want HD then this will be no good.

 

Free HD channels do work without subscription to HD.

If your out of contract tell them you will leave if its sorted out to your satisfaction.

But a second hand box will work aslong as you put Your viewing card in

I have bought a couple of boxes from 3rd parties and to use your card you just need to tell sky to allow the box to switch.

Each box is paired with each card and sky has to send a flag to allow a new card to pair but they usually really really dont mind doing it.

If its an HD box you will get bbc/channel 4 hd for free without paying.

That's what we did when our elderly box failed. It wasn't a problem, we just had to call them to get them to link the replacement box with our Sky Card.

i spent an hour with them and had to threaten to leave and they dropped the price for HD subscription so i could get a new box. In the end, to get the price down to what i was prepared to pay, Sky re-signed me to their new customer sky talk rates. But it took an hour and i was fed up and ready to leave. Now though i have a new Anytime+ box and the new features are pretty cool.

No, I spend enough on Sky already (and I dont subscribe to sports or movies as it is) so I'll probably get the new box and give them a ring to pair it up.

I'm waiting for them to ring me regarding cancellation as so far the 2 times they have rung in the middle of the day the wife has told them I'm at work.

 

I emailed them via their contact page as their new 0844 number is not included in my BT any time calls package.
