[sims] What is the best way to make parent SLG accounts?

Before we provision parents through SLG in order to make their accounts, we want to know what is the best username format to use in order to help identify and organise parents better in AD.

 

The default username format in SLG ADP is: %10Su.%2Fo

That will result in a username such as: Surname.Fi

 

But how can we have it so we know which student the parent belongs to? Otherwise some parents may have similar names. Is there a unique SIMS ID we can add to the username so we can find whose account it is in case the parent loses the login? And if there is, how do I add it to the username format or an automatic description in AD?

For parent or guardian and just expand the number for each parent/guardian requiring access.

 

I like 'g' better just because it covers all bases

In SIMS ADP I can't see any way to add a student's username into the parents username format. All I see is this:

So I guess you can't even use the pupil's name oh well, ignore me then

Parent accounts are always tricky. I've used various ways of linking accounts in the past, but is using SLG ADP I don't think that there is a way in AD. However, in Sims itself it's easy to create a report with all the details in - just add the AD Provisioning fields.

 

Be prepared to have a data cleansing exercise before creating the accounts. You will find that the same person has been entered multiple times, especially if they have more than one child at the school.

I would avoid trying to use pupil identifers in parental account names. It breaks down when they have multiple children in the school.

Theres mailmerged letters you can run via reports to pull of a list of parents, students, usernames and passwords.

 

This works well for us.
