mattx Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 ...got an OBE ? Is it for his services to Tax Evasion ?
mthomas08 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Its for bringing great talented people through the X Factor... like frankie cocozza...... Mr walking STD. 1
aerospacemango Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I think you'll find it's for services to music AND his writing the song for Her Maj's 60th anniversary..... as well as tax evasion!
Haptic Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I'm certain Mattx posts these things to pander to my sadistic side. I'd love to offer a genuinely shocking answer to your (honestly) superb question/observation, but I'll keep schtum. I hate being professional. Wolfman. 1

rich_tech Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I was a bit bewildered by this, given his use of the scheme that Jimmy Carr used, though his lawyers does claim he "thought it was legit" lol Downing Street defends Gary Barlow honour after tax row - Telegraph
crt404 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Technically speaking, it's not tax evasion, it's avoidance, which is completely legal. It is what IT contractors were doing before IR35 legislation was introduced.
Flatpackhamster Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Technically speaking, it's not tax evasion, it's avoidance, which is completely legal. It is what IT contractors were doing before IR35 legislation was introduced. That isn't just a technicality. It could just be that Mattx was trolling since he must know the difference between avoidance and evasion.
witch Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Course he was. That's what he does! You bored at work again, @mattx sweetie?
aerospacemango Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 (edited) GASP! Mattx trolling? Shurely shome mishtake? Anyhooooo... Gary Barlow and his OBE.... ... You can get one for just about anything these days! Downing Street defends Gary Barlow honour after tax row - Telegraph And as for this.... It disgusts me that they defend Barlow, and yet Carr gets pilloried by all and sundry for doing exactly the same. (Can you tell I'm going to see Mr Carr in 2 weeks???) 6Foot2 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I don't see what the fuss is about. Receiving an 'honour' lost any significance/meaning years ago. Even when it did have some significance it wasn't much. I find it a little amusing that someone would expect me to call them 'Sir Alan Sugar' or 'Lord Coe' etc. when in talking to them.
