Try running the following command on one of the XP machines and see if you get a response:

nslookup -type=srv _VLMCS

Response should be something like:

Server:  dc1.domain.local
Address:  10.2.3.4

avonbourne.local
       primary name server = dc1.domain.local
       responsible mail addr = hostmaster.domain.local
       serial  = 489599
       refresh = 900 (15 mins)
       retry   = 600 (10 mins)
       expire  = 86400 (1 day)
       default TTL = 900 (15 mins)

you can use VAMT and do a proxy authenticate through your managment PC.

EDIT: Sorry KMS can't proxy authenticate but you can still specify the server address and port.

If this command doesn't work (it didn't for me), try this one:

nslookup -q=SRV _VLMCS._TCP
