Hi there,

We are at the time of year where our RM Smartcahe is going to set us back a few quid getting the warranty and subscriptions etc renewed so I'm thinking of maybe having a look at the Sonicwall Content Filtering as a replacement.

Is anyone else using Sonicwall for content filtering? If so how are you finding it?

From the research I've done, the RM offering is usually the cheapest of them all. Is this a cost saving excercise? Or, just the fact that the Sonicwall will do more for money?

The Sonicwall content filtering is quite cheap. We have various subscriptions with them and for 3 yrs filtering its £300 + vat. I think it'll do just the same as the Smartcache but would like some feedback from someone who maybe using it.

Ah. Does that sit on existing Sonicwall appliance then or something?

We use Sonicwall content filtering and it's a nightmare.....

Specific issues are:

The single sign on agent crashes at least once a week.

It is hard to filter sub-folders of domain without filtering the actual domain.

Some methods of white listing don't work and your lists will be randomly lost if you mis-click.

The category filtering uses backward logic, e.g. you tick what they shouldn't get access to not what they should.

On the plus side we do use the application rules and that does work quite well to block app signatures e.g. Skype, etc.
