Internet Going Down / Rebooting Server Fixing

I have installed a Windows 2008 R2 network at a school with LGFL2 (sharing the link with the infant school) but something very odd is happening.

 

The school tells me that every few days when they come in, in the mornings that the internet is not working for some websites (like google) but it is working for others.

 

Apparently rebooting the Windows 2008 R2 server fixes the problem, which does not make much sense as the internet goes directly to the router of course.

 

I have checked the event viewer log files but cannot find any pattern of anything going wrong when it goes down.

 

I just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what might be going on. Not come across anything like this before.

Could you set up some sort of logging to ping an outside address so you can monitor when it goes down and see whether it actually *is* going down?

This server is also doing DNS and DHCP and everything else.

 

I don't believe it is going down. Centrastage is installed and not detecting the internet going down. this would also not explain why some websites work while others do not.

if say http://www.something.com does not work can you still ping it (assuming you could before)?

 

what do you have as dns forwarders perhaps one of them is iffy?

Yeah I would change the DNS Forwarders to something like 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 as long as these are reachable - does suggest that the DNS forwarder set as the primary is throwing a wobbly and DNS is not using the secondary or secondary is wrong.
