Arrived at one of my schools this morning and have found out that the ICT Co-ord is wanting to replace aload of aging classroom PCs and has had a rep out from a company which could supply all the kit.

 

Well the note in my book made me laugh so much a little bit of wee came out

 

"You expressed that you may like to use Dell. The chap (on card) said that Dell are going under and to be aware of this."

 

Now either I live in a bubble, or last time I looked Dell were the worlds second largest pc manufacturer behind HP?

Yup... Of course, in some instances that may mean slating them. I've found that facial expression tends to say it all without actually verbalising anything.

@Contink - honestly slating the competition is one thing, but making stupid claims like "Dell are going under" is ridiculous. IMHO, it would just make me question everything which that sales rep said after that, however genuine it might be.

Yep. As soon as i hear daft statements like that i just switch off. If you want my business you have to be 100% honest with me. I will actually respect you/your product more if you are forward with any shortcomings.

Reminds me of a story I heard when I worked for IBM, when the company had just posted one of the biggest losses in US corporate history and were in the process of shedding thousands of jobs world-wide.

 

An Exec of another large US Corporation, speaking to an IBM Exec said he was sorry to hear IBM had fallen on such hard times, and how serious the situation must be losing so many staff; the IBM Exec said, 'Yes, things are bad, we are down to our last 350,000 employees world-wide......'

 

A few years later IBM had gained as many staff as they lost through acquisitions such as Lotus, Tivoli & others.

I don't suppose Dell are going under any time soon (I hope not - we've just chosen them as preferred supplier!) but they are less successful than they have been - I think HP overtook them last year in volume of sales.

 

I'm not going to attempt to advise on share dealing, but Dell's shares were just over $40 2 years ago; they're about $25 now!
