Flash alternative

Hi all

 

I've been asked if anyone can recommend me a Flash alternative, for the main purpose of creating animations/banners.

 

Flash and/or Adobe site licences are just to far beyond us at the moment however much I would like to purchase them so, cheaper the better if possible!

A simple animated banner can be done as a gif. I've created successful animations with FlashDevelop.org but I haven't played with it for a for or five years. I guess that means it can only be even better.

You can make animations with it, I know from experience.

Adobe Edge Animate? It's free and is essentially the HTML5 equivalent to Flash.

What about Silverlight? There must be developer apps/tools for this? Or HTML5 of course.

HTML5 or fancy javascript - all of our website Flash objects were stripped out for JS equivalents. Obviously not everything can be done in JS though.

Thanks for the replies, will take a closer look at the ones above.

 

I did look at Silverlight and we have Microsoft Blend through the dreamspark/expression web included in the EES agreement but at the glance I took it did seem heavily programming based. I think ideally, while simple programming might be viable, anything complex would rather be avoided.
