CC4 machine build failing on a Samsung RF711

Hi there,

 

I'm struggling to get this building onto CC4.

 

I have added what i thought/think is the Vista 32bit NIC driver to the build area but after starting the PXE boot routine the bugger just goes to a window asking for the offline build key.

 

When looking at the Diagnostic screen at this point I get two entries in the window:

 

1) Desc = Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller MAC Add = abc123 etc IP Add = 0.0.0.0 Conn State = Disconnected

 

2) Desc = PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727 . . . . . . . Con State = Driver missing

 

With regards to point 1, the driver for this is installed as far as I can see but it just isn't being picked up!

 

Any help, suggestions, Ideas etc as always are greatly appreciated.

Hi,

 

Do you have these machines built to vanilla vista OS? If you do you could try driver grabber to ensure you definitely have the correct driver. I have had this issue a couple of times and solved it with a different version of the driver.

 

Also try logging on to the machine and check the vendor and device ID of the network card, then open the driver inf file of the driver you imported and see if it's contained in there, if it isn't then that'll be your problem, you may need to contact Samsung for a more specific driver.

 

Also how many drivers do you have in your build disk? If it's a large build disk try creating a new one and only add this driver. During the build process the drivers are loaded to a reserved area of the memory which is only 30mb. If you have too many drivers in the build disk some will be missed, although it says it has picked the driver up it may not have.

Hi there, thanks for your post.

 

The build disk isn't big at all and having spoken to Samsung, they won't help as the system was shipped with Win7 and they aren't going to waste any time looking into whether there is a specific driver for the NIc on this machine.

 

I'll post the vendor/device I'd on here tomorrow and there will be a beer voucher on its way to anyone who can provide me with a Vista driver that will work with the CC4 workstation build process.

Here are values in the Hardware ID section of the device manager for the NIC I'm trying to get Vista drivers for:

 

It's labelled as a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

For the first person that can locate a Vista driver for this which will work with the RM CC4 station build then there's a beer token in it for them.

I've checked through the Win7 and WinVista Realtek drivers for the 8168 series NICs.

 

None of them include these Hardware IDs, including the drivers from the Samsung Site!

 

I'd suggest downloading Aida64, to help with gathering Hardware Details...

 

On loading Aida64, click on Devices, then Windows Devices, before scrolling down to double click on the “Unknown” Selection.

 

Highlighting each device will show you a generic driver description and Hardware ID for the device.
