Proxy setting keep resetting themselves to 127.0.0.1?

Hi all

 

On our XP machines the proxy keeps setting itself to 127.0.0.1 for HTTP and Secure. If I go into the connection settings and untick the "use a proxy" box and click ok, the settings are cleared (I can check this by going to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings in the registry).

 

If I then click OK on the Internet Properties window (the one with connection, programs, etc along the top) the proxy is re-enabled. I can check this is when it happens by refreshing the registry. Here's are the 2 keys that are at fault:

 

ProxyEnable REG_DWORD 1

ProxyServer REG_SZ http=127.0.0.1:1100;https=127.0.0.1:1100

 

The port numbers seems to vary, but they're always the same for http and https.

 

I can reproduce this every time. It seems to be on all Win XP machines. Our Win 7 machines aren't affected by this (as far as I can tell).

 

Any help would be appreciated. Editing the REG directly doesn't have any affect either.

 

Setting proxy settings via GP do nothing.

Does AB tutor do filtering? Probably that.

To find out, in a command prompt run "netstat -a -b" and look for the application listening on port 1100 -it will only show the .exe name which is not so user friendly but will hopefully be clear enough.

AFAIK Ab Tutor can be set to filter, but only if you manually apply a policy to a PC. I've never seen it screw with the proxy settings.

Just for everyone information.

 

Since version 3502 we do not rewrite the proxy address. It caused to many issues with off site laptops etc.

Goodgood. Was a bad way to do it.

 

While I remember can we have "teens" removed from the porn filter lists? Means any websites with "educational content for teens..." etc is blocked. Only solution is to disable the porn filter.

Default lists really designed for primary schools something as company we are looking at. However wait for next version added a useful feature that might help..

I've also seen Bonjour change the proxy settings. [For some reason iTunes is on our Admin image.]

I've just come across this as well!

 

Taken me a week to work out whats going on.

Just raised a ticket with AB Tutor about it. Did you ever get it resolved?

I have the same problem here. They are working on a fix but it's not arriving fast enough for my liking.

Just seen there's a new version 7.1.5 available which addresses this issue, tried it, same problem.
