What Cloud Backup for teachers home machine

I've ateacher been bitten and now wants a foolproof auto backup for home machine

 

Can you recommend any that you use?

 

They'll pay money out!

Sorry there is two distinct questions here. Fool proof and teacher should not be used in same question. Skydrive good option, or office 365 sharepoint

What about using dropbox? Get them to drag stuff over that they need to backup - that's what I usually do with teachers home machines.

BackBlaze. It backs up everything!

 

Mozy is not foolproof when it actually comes to restoring data and Dropbox is not designed for backups - it's for syncing data between multiple computers.

I'll second Backblaze - $93 for 2 years unlimited isn't bad. I've just starting using them myself. Only slight annoyance is the lack of Linux support. Edited September 24, 2012 by pete

How much (data wise) do they need to backup? There are plenty of good free options such as Skydrive and DropBox, but if it is large amounts then I suppose the answers given must reflect the amount to be stored.

SkyDrive is a good bet, shame about the 7GB free limit for new users though

Ta - I think BackBlaze is what I'm after - install and forget - only worry about the restore IF they open up the email attachment from FedEx again

PS BTW This is the second teacher thats been caught out and ended up with some malaware that seems to encrypt all your documents and photos and demand money to retrieve them

 

I can remove the malaware but the data is lost

Do you know the name of the malware? Sometimes you can decrypt the encrypted documents.

Went back to teachers house today to install BackBlaze and it said it was backing up 25GB of photos!

 

So I reset Explorer to show all files inc hidden and voila - there they all were - they'd just simply been hidden!

 

So the malaware wasn't as evil as I thought

It's also way easier to code attrib +h /s *.whatever and for 95% of people, that's sufficient to get their cash

not as bad as the old virus that loaded your boot sector into ram erased it from disk and then made you play cards with it to restore the boot sector
