Which Webserver Installation Kit?

Morning all. Trust you all had excellent weekends?

 

I am looking to setup a webserver running the usual Apache, PHP, MySQL , mySQL admin etc.

 

Rather than download, install and config' each one, im looking to download an installation kit, but which one? After a quick google I've got Apache Friends XAMPP, PHP EasyWindows Installer, firepages phpdev,WAMP5 1.4.5.

 

Any ideas?

Just going to be used in the internal LAN for an intranet. Need to be installed on a W2K Server box, so Linux is not an option.

Why? Surely a spare P75 is lying dormant in the cupboard?!?

 

Apache has some excellent features which are only available in Linux and PHP is also one of the more temperamental of things to set up in Windows.

If you want to keep your Windows boxes then I use Apache 2 Traid. It istalls all of the LAMP components (without Linux, obviously) and asks for very little information. I run this on my laptop too

Why exactly? I use this combination for my webserver as it also holds iis for internal use (only for the Alice search).

 

The machine is behind an isp firewall and an ISA firewall and only apache (which is all up to date) shown to the outside world.

 

I would have thought that Apache2, php 4.3, mysql 4.1 have been shown to be stable on win32 by now

 

I have used Windows 2003 server with the above with horde/imp for 2 years without issue at home.

Yep Apache Friends gets my vote. The only issue I've had with Apache/PHP on Windows is speed. Windows isn't too hot at context switching.

Have a look at this, not sure if it will do what you want. I have used it and it works very well.

LAMP = Linux Apache MySQL PHP (or Perl or Python)

WAMP = Windows Apache MySQL PHP (or Perl or Python)

 

There's lots of other equally imaginative acronyms based on LAMP. Check wikipedia out.

What version you using fella? Edge (1.5.3) or Stable (1.4.3)

Downloaded ver Stable (1.4.3). in 10mins my laptop is running as a webserver with Joomla. Excellent stuff.
