penfold Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I have rolled out printers via group policy and was tested using a Windows 7 but since it has gone into a live environment the driver has caused a print spooler error which crashes and as a result no printing is available to the user. Now I have stopped the deployment but the driver is still loaded into the client. If I delete the printer locally it doesn't delete the print driver. I have updated the driver but it still causes the print spooler error. So my question is if I delete the printer, will the driver still cause the problems? Ideally I would like to remove the driver but as this is on lots of printers all over the site I want a quicker way of doing it.
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Hi penfold, have you looked at using DevCon from the Windows Drivers Kit? That should allow you to delete the .inf, .pnf and .cat files on remote pcs, by using devcon dp_delete Here's an MSDN link, to the command - DevCon (Windows Drivers)
SHimmer45 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 if you are using a windows 7 client you can use PRINTUI to remotely remove drivers (i dont think its part of XP) 1
penfold Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 @SHimmer45 - Thanks, I just tried it to get rid of the troublesome driver and it works on WinXP &Win7 Clients
SHimmer45 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 this is good i wasnt sure if you can run it on an XP client to make changes on other machines
