You can map drives using GPP

 

User Configuration > Preferences > Drive Maps

 

Just make sure if you change the Action to create instead of update if the drive doesn't exist beforehand.

 

also you can create and use .bat/.vbs files as a logon script to do drive mappings.

 

once created go to the following location in group policy to add them as logon scripts.

User Configuration > Windows settings > scripts > logon

There's a policy called "Remove Map Network Drive and Disconnect Network Drive" set this to disabled

 

its located in

 

User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Windows Explorer
