I have come back to work to find one of my domain controllers acting very strange. I am unable to access group policies, I get a message that I don't have permission yet I am able to acces them on the other domain controller also I am unable to make any changes in active directory although I can see everything. Also they dont seem to be replicating.

I was thinkin of demoting it and them repromoting it again, I thought I had seen a post talking about this a while back but I am unable to find it.

So before I go ahead with this what are your lines of thought this server has exchange 2003 only on it.

I had a similar problem a few months back. This was due to HDD failing on my PDC which corrupted AD on the PDC. AD was intact on another DC but would not replicate to the PDC.

Because of the coruption my most recent system state backup was also corrupted.

Due the HDD being the system drive in a non-raid array I ended up rebuilding the network over the half term.

Check your event logs for any read / write errors
