LAG /LACP on Netgear GSM7328S/FS and GS724TS/TPS

Hi All;

 

Hoping to link some GS724TPS/TS edge to my GSM7328S/FS with LAG, either via Fibre or Copper..just a bit confused by the options:

 

On the GS724TPS/TS we have :

On the GSM7328S/FS we have:

What would be a good match for the two for performance and redundancy?

 

Also hoping to do the same with HP DL380 G7 NIC Teaming with the GSM7328S core, any settings I need to watch out for?

Damn, i have a half eaten sandwich in my Dining room! ;)

 

That would be great, the interface is never consistant with those things...having a whale of a time with VLANs on the core too!

it would look like it is under port channel under switching..

It looks like I need to create the LAG first through SWITCHING > LAG screen (I'm on firmware 8.0.3.34) it's the Hash Mode option that confusing) Have you got that section on your Switch?

Hash mode allows you to specify the load-balancing model for the port group. Depending on what you are connecting via LACP - you may need to hash by source MAC, or source IP. When using LACP to connect to VMware servers for example, you need to load balance using source IP or you can't load balance at all, because all VM's appear from the same source MAC (the VMware host).

I will be Connecting the following via LACP:

 

A) Hyper-V server with 10Gbe NIC Teaming for VM machines(use Hash IP?)

B) Normal HP servers with NIC Teaming (use Hash IP?)

C) GS724TS/TPS edge switches stacked via HDMI(so acts as one switch) LACP via copper or fibre(use MAC or Hash IP?) this will be going to the core switch.

I'm not completely sure about your switches, but on Cisco gear the load-balancing is a global setting rather than per-port. I would recommend picking one method - probably IP since you have some virtualized infrastructure, and use that everywhere.
