Full XBMC on Android, yay

Just noticed that xbmc has a new full version out for android.

Downloaded and installed an unofficial app build of the source code onto my HTC Desire HD. Works a treat, however I can't really see a need for it on a phone as it's a bit too small, unless you have a lot of local media stored on your mobile, or if you have an Android tablet to put it onto. I run it on my jailbroken iPad, and if I knew just how awesome it was on the iPad, I would have jailbrok it on the day I got it just to get it installed!

 

On the plus side, it does mean every device in my home now has XBMC on it!

Er, no it isn't. Why would you install Android and then XBMC when you could use RaspBMC which is specifically designed to run XBMC on the Pi? If you just wanted it for a HTPC that is

It's not really, the distro of xmbc (raspbmc) is a single purpose distro with very little linux and lots of xbmc. or you could use openELEC, which has even less linux under it.

I'm using raspbmc, so no, not tried on a usb key sized PC, but it is perfectly competent as a HTPC on the Pi. If a little slow to perform file tasks and browsing. Playback is perfect.

XBMC and Ouya? Oh yeah!

Maybe it was inevitable. Maybe it was because of the hundreds, if not thousands, of demands on Twitter, in blogs, on Facebook, in Reddit, and in Kickstarter comments. Maybe it’s because many of Team Ouya support XBMC, and nearly a third of Team XBMC members are Ouya backers.

 

Regardless, we are delighted to announce that XBMC will be working with Ouya to ensure that XBMC works well on the Ouya platform. Ouya’s Android underpinnings and XBMC’s work on Android (soon to be merged into master, pending final sign-offs!) will dramatically speed up that effort, as will early XBMC dev access to Ouya prototypes.

 

The conversation between our two teams is young, but talk is ongoing and positive. We look forward to providing more exciting news on this front as it develops. (Source)

I'm going to sell the cat and run XMBC on the $98 4D Holographic Projector that someone somewhere sometime will make/sell

 

In the meantime, I'll carry on watching my TNG episodes on a 26in CRT TV that I've got archived on S-VHS tapes

Does your phone not have hdmi out?

 

When xbmc is fully released for Android (phone) I will link it to my film network shares and plug it in to my tv. nice.
