unixman_again Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 BBC News - Microsoft drops 'Metro' name for Windows 8 So what will it be called? I suggest they might use "Bricks" or "Blocks" or perhaps "Bollox"!

tmcd35 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I've heard they've already named the Volume License edition: Windows NUTS (Not Usable on This System).
SYNACK Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 'All your screen is belonging to us' Windows Touch - as that is what it is Honey I Blew Up My Phone I can't beleive it's not a tablet Windows We Don't Listen or my favorite W8 - as in Wait Either for a tablet running this or for a Desktop running Windows 9 Who knows it could take off and turn out to be handy but for the moment it seems like they stopped the UI planning meeting after they discussed single screen tablets and just never got back to it.
tmcd35 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I propose 'Start Menu'. I'm pretty sure someone in M$ already suggested that and hasn't been seen or heard off since... (but then neither has the 'Start Menu')
Gatt Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Confusingly Restructured Access Panel (or Portal?) 1
glennda Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Perhaps we should start registering some of these as trademarks?
Theblacksheep Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I'm pretty sure someone in M$ already suggested that and hasn't been seen or heard off since... (but then neither has the 'Start Menu') I must be missing something, in Windows7 I press the 'Windows key' and it give me a small 'Start Menu', In windows8 I press the 'windows key' and it brings up a big 'start menu'!

It also chucks the UI guidelines out the windows conceiling what you were doing and hiding any options considered remotely advanced. It messes with the mouse guidelines, right click to select??? really, since when. It is just shoehorned in ontop of the older input options and trashes the multimoniter experience.

The old one acted like a context menu by disappearing when interacting with anything else, it was mono use, just like the new one. The new one can be customised with all the advanced features in 7, if you include the right click you have quicker access to the advanced features. You can also just add a start menu toolbar or use pinned programs. Surely its right click for options? just like in previous versions. You have no reason to single left click to highlight something on the new start menu.
