Apple ID questions

Can you use the same apple ID on a suite of imacs or can you get a 'site' id or do all machines need a unique ID ?

 

Whats best practice here, and how does it work with imaging. I'm thinking with respect to imovie etc.

Given that we have 1 apple id across 2 ipod touches, an ipad and an iphone at home, I'd say one id is enough

Yes I believe you can only use one apple ID across 5 devices.

Got 16ipads and a macbook on one ID - there's certainly no limit that low.

I was always under the impression there was a limit of 10 devices for one Apple ID, especially if you're using it to purchase apps etc. However I've just set up 12 iPads with the same ID with no issues.

A better question than "How many concurrent macs will work?" might be "how many concurrent macs are 'Legal'?"

If you are creating an image for a suite of iMacs and in that said image would be iMovie then you would buy a volume licence for iMovie and deploy via the two methods in the above link.....easy

One of our suppliers "Apple Specialists" replied to us stating:

 

You can associate all the macs with the same Apple ID if you wish BUT be aware when it comes to licensing of the Apps for business you must be able to purchase the App in question per device, which is a problem when it comes to multi devices on 1 Apple ID.

You do not need to associate any Macs with multiple Apple I.D.'s in order to install, deploy or use any Apple software.

 

The Apple I.D. is only required if you want to buy or redownload apps from the Mac App Store, when you buy a volume licence you just use one single Apple I.D. to download those Apps you require and then deploy said software using the server tools or Deploy Studio...

I may be missing the obvious (being a mac-less school), but how do you deploy software to the mac without having a mac ID on it? Isn't it all through MacStore etc etc? And if you don't buy 25+ (or w/e volume minimum is) don't you need single license per ID, if it's software that's only in certain departments etc?

I think you need to link every mac to the same apple ID
