School IOS application

Hi,

 

I need your help to get my app accepted.

 

Long story short the app im developing for a school needs more native functionality.

 

What it has so far:

News - (rss feed from school server)

Latest newsletter

Term dates list

Prospectuses for the school / post 16

Contact us page with map

A letters home page that shows what letters have been sent home.

 

 

It needs more native things that take advantage of the iphones features but it needs to be related to school. Your help would be appreciated

How about student timetables e.g.

Today Bob has:

Maths 9:00 - 10:00

English 10:00 - 11:00

ICT 11:15 - 12:15

...

Surely the app needs features, if those features happen to need native stuff, then it should be a native app, but you can do pretty much everything as a web app anyway

Why have this as an app? A mobile optimised web page is ideal for something like this.. take advantage of Webkit and HTML5. Phones have great support for this stuff. Not only that, it will be cross platform.

 

If you want a web app to appear as an actual app, just encourage users to save a shortcut to their home screen.

Some sites detect you're browsing on iOS and remind you that you can click a button below and click save as shortcut or similar

That would be a better idea I think as then it can be viewed on any phone and not just limiting it to an iPhone.

I'd go for this too. Also means you only have to update one place if there is a major change, rather than 2 or more apps...
