The thing that spoiled back to earth was the lack of an audience and laughter track. I believe they've got an audience this time around. I also didn't like all the CG effects and prefer a real set. As long as both those points are ok I think, for me, it will be worth a watch.

I believe they're trying to be a lot closer to the older series' now - as they have a more suitable budget. They had to do a lot with no budget in the mini-series, so made use of existing sets (corrie?) and cheap set dressing etc...

 

And they filmed a bunch of it live I believe!

I do hope it's a return to the early days. I never watched 'Back to Earth', so thankfully I have not got that to hold against it. I did get a bit miffed that in the later series they got rid of the 'Dwarf' which left things feeling cramped and pointless - why call it Red Dwarf when they were stuck in Star Bug all the time?

My wife speculated that there was in fact an audience there, you just couldn't hear anyone laughing as it wasn't funny.

I liked BTE. Course it wasn't as good as the rest, but I'd still like it as massive RD fan. Roll on X, can't wait
