Updating folder redirection

I've just bought a second server and installed server 2008r2 to match our existing server.

 

As we are out of space on server1 I have copied all the user data to server2, all the permissions are intacts etc.

 

I assumed redoing the folder redirection for desktop, documents etc would be as simple as updating the policy and updating the group policy. Unfortunately I was massively wrong and no matter what I do I cant get it to update the redirection locations.

 

Could someone point me in the right direction please?

Do you have the user's home directory set in the Active Directory, and if so have you updates that to point to the new server location?

Or are you defining the location directly in the GPO for \\servername\username\blah ?

I have the home directorys specified in AD, but i have the redirections setup in a GPO

 

ie favourites

\\server\%username%\favourites

 

Staff desktops

\\server\%username%\desktop

I have just done the same thing - moved the users home folders to a different server.

 

I have managed to get everything to move apart from the desktop (redirected to users home folder) which, despite being updated in the GPO, still looks for the old server and so doesn't load the desktop.

 

The only way round this that I have found is to delete the users profile and let it create a new one but this certainly isn't ideal for 130 members of staff most of which wouldn't be happy if they lost their profile settings.

 

Does anyone have any ideas?

I ended up using a script to delete the keys that referred to the old folder redirection in the users profile and forcing a reboot.

Thanks - I don't suppose you have that script handy do you? Saves me reinventing the wheel and all that...
