IE and Firefox both displaying fonts in italics

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but last night I was browsing away using Firefox and I noticed all my fonts, except those in bold had changed to italics. I switched to IE, and the same was happening there. I've searched tools options etc and a quick look on the net but can't find an explanation. Does anyone know why this should happen. My AV software is up to date.

Could be a few things but try this first...

In IE:

View > Encoding > Make sure "Western European (ISO)" is selected

In Firefox:

View > Character Encoding > Mine is set to "Unicode (UTF-8)"

Although if it's effecting both browsers it could be some system wide setting, try this link.

thanks Indie. Shortly after posting my cry for help I did another search (I was tired last night) and managed to come up with a solution. For some reason My Aial Regular font had been deleted/disappeared, and so my browsers looked for the next in line, which happened to be Arial Italic. I downloaded another set from the link below and all's well.

Arial fonts

just to add to the sum of knowledge on this subject, the fonts on my office computer became italic in both browsers this morning. At first I thought it was perhaps a virus of some sort, but then thought a bit more and realized that the connection was probably Mambo Stand Alone Server. I'd just uninstalled it, and that's probably what I'd done at home.

MSAS seesm like a good product for testing mambo on stand alone machines or those without any webspace, if only they get it right.
