Video editing software

Hope this is in the right section. At a school i'm in there are some very talented year 5 students that do alot of video editing and podcasting. TBH they are really good, they use flips and windows movie maker and to be honest have more or less exhausted these programs is there any cheep software that would take them to the next level that would be suitable for high end primary low end high school. ( thinking adobe aftereffect and that may be a bit to much for them)

Did you approach them first? We need to get the best deal we can from them. Saying that I'm just downloading the free software at the moment

Windows Live Movie Maker - free and does a job quite well I think whenever I have used it here, its gone and done whats needed without problems (installation is a bit of a pain though on a network)

Sony Vegas is surprisingly easy to pick up and do the basics with, the kids will then have the ability to work to bigger and better things.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements at home, and find it very powerful for the money.

What about trying the videolan offering? VideoLAN - VLMC, open source video editor

I thought the VLMC project was dead in the water? Last time I checked it hadn't been updated in something like two years.

 

WeVideo.com is free, and apparently creaza.com is the educational (and paid) version thereof, and includes a few other tools that may be of interest. According to the email our head of IT got, you can set an account up at Creaza and email them at [email protected] to get your account upgraded to premium so you can play with the features before going for a quote. No idea what it would cost going forward, though.
