HP Thin Client, Terminal Server & Flash

Hello all!

 

We have discovered, Flash animations absolutely kill the processor on the terminal server (Server 2008 R2). We have been testing a HP t5565 Thin Client using the ThinPro operating system (based on Debian). HP have released "HP Thin Clients - HP RDP Enhancements for Flash Redirection". I have successfully installed this on the terminal server, and on the thin client, but we're still seeing that ONE user running ONE flash animation will push the CPU usage up to 90%. This 'fix' is meant to move the flash processing from the server to the client to reduce load on the server, but we're just not seeing it work.

Can we send you a zero client for comparison. This will run flash well with no extra software, our approach is to optimise the hardware to get the performance.

 

Flash redirection is all very well (should be?), but obviously only works for flash, so not for Mediaplayer, HTML5 or any other format, current or future.

 

Having more optimised hardware will provide increased in performance in all graphics environments - without adding more load to the server (The M80 will also cost less, and has 5 year warranty, shipped with (free) remote management s/w, lower power consumption, includes VESA mounting bracket...)

Server 2008 R2 uses RDP7 - so maybe you need a different version?

Thanks for that, I certainly overlooked that statement. I will test it on a Server 2003 R2 server. But any new Terminal Server we buy would have Server 2008 R2 on them, so we may hit a road block there.
