Came across this last night on YouTube and decided to watch a few 'gameplay' videos. Looks rather good and a bit bit different from the other type of MMO games.

Any Geekers play it or recommend it?

I beta'd it. It's a fine game. It's based on the freemium model. Because of the way they've done it (pay to win basically) there are a couple of things I don't like.

* Some of the best items ingame are unattainable despite long term players having them (some of the tanks) due to limited time based promotions.

* Some of the other best items ingame can only be bought with real money and not earned. (the gold ammo is the worst culprit here)

If that kind of thing doesn't bother you then go for it.

I played it in beta, was good fun but like Geoff said you will often loose out to people who are willing to pay real money for an "edge"

While i played the game i found everyone went for the "bigger is better" approach and used heavy tanks, me and my mates had fun buzzing around them in light tanks and did quite well out of it.

I played late in the beta, and still play now, it's not a bad game in that you can pretty much pick it up and play in any mood, the free to play works to a certain extent but I have payed for premium account throughout, without progress is slow and tedious. Game play is pretty much the same all the way through and certain aspects of the game and drive you insane. Best thing to do is sign up and give it a go!

As for gold ammo, I don't waste them in random battles only in clan wars or esl games. The "dice roll" for +/- 25% of the average penetration value makes much more of a difference. I still have gold ammo bounce of lower tier vehicles, there is a lot of random factors in the game. If your going for free to play don't go above tier 5 and you will still be able to make decent money and the game play is still fun.

I really like playing this...but the lower levels were a bit (well very actually) frustrating so I did give in and buy a better tank (the cheapest available natch) and then I started to make some cash.

I am going to stay at level 5 as @TronXP says and just have fun...I can't be @rsed to take it as seriously as a lot of the people on there.

(Oh and BTW at least I can boast that I have driven real armoured vehicles, not that makes any difference at all ;))

does a FV432 modified to shoot paintballs count? :p

It wasnt bad on beta, made painful at times though by people shelling you from half a map away, bit annoying people can buy better tanks / gear as well as has already been said, takes time to get any sort of decent tanks too in the game, good fun though in a pure armour sense.

I got this installed and had a bash on the weekend. It's not too bad. A bit repetitive if anything - enter a battle, die, wait for tank to be made available again, repeat. Got 3 tanks now, one of them is a long range thing which is cool. No matter how tactfully I play though, I always seem to get pummled almost instantly with 2/3 shots.

Also seriously annoying was when I joined a few battles only to have someone on my team just start shooting at me and everyone else. In the end, I shot him then got a load of abuse for team killing!

Confused though, one of my starter level 1 tanks has all the upgrades and loads of experience. However I can't seem to use it on research as all addons for it have bee researched. So do I just continue to play with it and gain points I can't use, or sell it for a level 2 base tank?

I was very sceptical at first but a friend recently talked me into trying this and you know what, it's pretty good. Obviously the best part being that it's a free-to-play mmo (I see no point or need to buy 'gold') and the best way to play is to team up and form a platoon with 1 or 2 buddies. If anyone wants to team up sometime gimme a shout ;)

I'm a long term played of the game, playing for about the past three years. Still enjoyable and my mates and I go into the various tournaments and seem to do fairly OK at them. :D

I've been playing it for about a year and a half now. Totally addicted!

What really changed it for me was when I joined a clan along with one of my workmates. I now chat via Teamspeak with people in Holland, Belgium, Croatia, Venezuela, etc and often play in a platoon (up to 3 people) or stronghold (8-10 members of our clan against another). It is much more enjoyable that way.

In terms of paying for stuff, I pay for a premium account (around £10\month) and buy gold occasionally (though you don't have to do this). For the amount I get out of it I don't resent paying £10-£20 a month to play it (it's about 6 pints!)

The only tanks you have to buy with 'real cash' to are premium ones but, to be honest, they aren't the best in the game so you wouldn't be missing out on anything by not buying them.

Try it and see what you think. There is a learning curve to it and tactics are important too (a lot of new players just tend to rush off and die pretty much instantly). This is a decent guide to read, though it's a couple of years old now.

Thanks for posting that guide Tall_Paul it was most informative and helped me on my way ;) After a couple of months of playing (freemium) my garage is now full of tier IV/V tanks and I've joined a clan too (unfortunately they're not very active atm but show promise) and play in platoons occasionally. I did buy some gold to open up a couple of extra slots and play a couple of days of premium, but to be honest I'm fine playing it as a free account. I also had to upgrade my hardware as I was tired of playing between 5-20 fps, my new lappie roasts it at a most acceptable 60-70 fps on maximum settings. :D

Favourite tank so far? It's gotta be the ELC AMX I got an Ace Mastery in it a couple of days ago, and my little Matilda is a force to be reckoned with.

Glad it helped!

Good you've managed with just freemium. Unfortunately, as you head towards the top tiers (8 and above), it starts becoming very easy to lose credits on battles if you don't have a good one. Without a premium account it could prove difficult (though people are doing it so it isn't impossible).

The clan I'm in is very active and are always looking for new members so if you're interested drop me a PM and I'll mention it to the clan recruiters. You'll need to install Teamspeak (which is great as we chat in battles) but it's free so no big problem.

ELC is a very fun tank, though the lack of turret rotation can be a bit frustrating. The Chaffee (US tier 5 scout) is another good one.

Sorry, did you say 'losing' credits?!! :faint2:

The Chaffee (US tier 5 scout) is another good one.

Funny you should say that, my ELC AMX was hunted down and brutally raped by a Chaffee last night. So from that point on I resolutely decided that I need a Chaffee, I will start working on getting one tonight. I just need an extra slot and don't have enough gold left so I might sell my pathetic Tier II premium German tank that was given to me.

I quite like the ELC, I must admit. I'm half tempted to get it again at some point. Currently just derping around with my GW Tiger P, gotta love AP rounds one shotting most tanks :D

And yes, once you go above T8, you'll be losing credits like nobodies business. I myself run premium (I tend to buy it by the year load) and have a couple of T8 prems, so I'm not too worried but you can easily lose 25-30k each battle at T10 if you play like a donkey.

Been playing it since Beta. I have about 40K games experience in it and have every tier 10.

Apart from the SPGs' it seems. Other than that though, looks very nice :)

I'm finding the recent nerfs to aiming have really impacted on the ease of earning credits. Before I rarely lost credits in a tier 8, even when losing matches. Now if you have a bad match in a tier 7 you can lose credits!

On the plus side it's a real incentive to improve the way you play (though very annoying when you're on one of those lemming teams where you're 6-0 down in the first few minutes).

I haven't seen all that much difference, myself. The only thing I've seen a problem with is the US T8 light tank, the T49. Now you do need to aim fully to even get close to hitting at anything more than 50m, which means you're stuffed with the long aim time.
