Hi Guys,

Ive done a new install with all Lion clients and a Mac mini server (Lion) for sending out preferences.

All my standard preferences are working fine ..

The School would now like me to set a background for all machines .... no problem within workgroup manager >> details >> adding in the managed.app items and then set the background in desktop file.

This pushes out nice to all the machines ..

One problem we have thou ..

they would like to centre the background and then make the background desktop colour black .

Ive recreated this on a machine and exported the .plist into WGM ...

This thing doesnt send down the settings -

Can anybody advise on a better way of

Setting the background to the image in /Library/Desktop Pictures/music.png (this has been copied over to all machines)

Setting the image to centered

setting the background to Black

I seem to have all the correct preferences set in the exported plist - but it dont want to play ball ...

Hope somebody can point me into the right direction

Thanks

@Rozzer @Arthur - might be some other people / edugeek folk that Rozzer or Arthur can suggest ( or they may even know a better way of doing this ) excluding the suggestion I have already pm'ed you which was to make it into one image and push this out :)

Hi,

Just curious how you managed to deploy a desktop picture via WGM. Could you please share your procedure. I am running 10.8.2 on both server and client. I use WGM 10.8 to deliver preferences but can't set a desktop. I was able to do this on my 10.6 network.

I have tried setting the desktop at group and machine level but neither work.

basically, I select a group in WGM, go to details. I set my desktop and then add the desktop plist and apply. When I log on from a mac the desktop is still the default blue. Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Cheers

Are you placing the image(s) in a folder which is accessible by all users of the Mac?

I have placed the image in the default desktop pictures location, /Library/Desktop Pictures/ on each mac. I have also tried using the desktop images supplied but to no avail. I am baffled as I am using the same principle as I did with 10.6.

Have you added the managed.app from /System/Library/Core Services into managed preferences to give you more preference options? I have had no issues in the past with using the desktop plist.

yes I have added it and have managed to apply most settings apart from the desktop. I also look after a 10.6.8 network and the desktop deploys fine. I can only assume something has changed in 10.8.2 which prevents it from working.
