About camelot

  1. Thanks James. I will look into the QNAP range.
  2. Hi, I am looking at purchasing a NAS RAID 5 device with the view to backing up 3 ML servers. I was planning on mounting the volume on each macmin and using Time Machine to backup the data to the NAS. I was wondering what NAS device people are currently using. TIA
  3. Just an update. I reinstalled OD and WGM and all is now well. Cheers,
  4. yes I have added it and have managed to apply most settings apart from the desktop. I also look after a 10.6.8 network and the desktop deploys fine. I can only assume something has changed in 10.8.2 which prevents it from working.
  5. I have placed the image in the default desktop pictures location, /Library/Desktop Pictures/ on each mac. I have also tried using the desktop images supplied but to no avail. I am baffled as I am using the same principle as I did with 10.6.
  6. Hi, Just curious how you managed to deploy a desktop picture via WGM. Could you please share your procedure. I am running 10.8.2 on both server and client. I use WGM 10.8 to deliver preferences but can't set a desktop. I was able to do this on my 10.6 network. I have tried setting the desktop at group and machine level but neither work. basically, I select a group in WGM, go to details. I set my desktop and then add the desktop plist and apply. When I log on from a mac the desktop is still the default blue. Any ideas where I am going wrong? Cheers
  7. Mezmerrick, you sound like you have at least got around this. I will look into implementing your method and let you know how it goes. Chris, when you are at home I guess you have installed the DNS service on the mac server. When you go to school you should stop this service and use your organisation DNS server, I find this works at lot better. If you still want to use your DNS server you will need to set up a forwarder to your school dns server. There are also ports that will need opened in order for you to reach APNS. we had issues herewith our proxy server set-up so created a VLAN for the mac stuff, which bypassed the proxy server.
  8. Hi, I have set up lion server and enabled profile manager. I am able to deploy payloads to an iPad and it all looks promising. However, we will be shortly purchasing around 28 iPads for Art and Design. I am a little confused about how I will centrally manage apps that the department want. The iPads will not belong to a student and will be shared between several classes and years. How do I purchase 28 copies of an app? Could I use a central Appleid or iTunes account? I have read that the Apple Volume Purchase Program is not available in the UK as I write. We are a windows 2008 server school and so used to running application servers, network apps, etc I would love to hear from anybody that manages iPads/apps in the classroom. Cheers,
