PrimaryTech Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Hi all, Our school is looking to get some stage lighting but I don't know of any suppliers in Cornwall and know little of production sound and lighting (apparently this falls under my remit ). All I know is that we would like 4-6 LED par cans and a lighting mixer. Any advice or recommendations gratefully received, I know this isn't stictly IT but I don't know who else to ask!

You got try Stage Electrics. I know they are not in Cornwall, but have a sales office in Plymouth (01752 269 444) & Exeter (01392 824 100). The school in South Devon, where I worked a few years ago, used them for a fair bit of kit.
MattGreaves Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Agree with Steve, Stage Electrics are your people!
twin--turbo Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 It's a few years since I was involved, I specked and rebuilt our riggs 8 years ago... But Stage Electrics were my choice 2. Equipment will depend entirely on what you want to do, Parcans were originaly designed for cheap colourwash and the latest LED ones do this very well. The big expense will be a decent desk, I always favourd Zero88 stuff and the tech support was good from them too. Rob
Oaktech Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 yup... for cornwall, stage electrics. I would recomend a zero88 fat frog.
K.C.Leblanc Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I would recomend a zero88 fat frog. I would have thought that was overkill for 4-6 LED cans. What equipment do you have in place at the moment? You also have to consider you will need to have DMX cable running from the desk to the LED cans. If you've only been using traditional stage lighting you probably won't have this in place.

It is slightly overkill, but i've always found that as soon as someone wants LED fixtures they will then hire more fixtures and start to run out of channels very quickly on something like a jester and then end up having to hire a fat/bull frog for major shows which gets expensive quickly. If the budget is available go bigger/more features. The kids will learn it quickly enough.
hil Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I agree Stage Electrics are the people to contact. I would contact the head office in Bristol and say to them what you want to do. Then they will probable send someone down to your school to talk to you and find out your full requirements. The after service is brilliant.
