Nij.UK Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Congrats on the job... are you going in as a manager or a technician? Im sure they will ease you into the job on the first couple of days and let you find your feet... I wouldnt worry too much Good luck!
Jake Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 1) Changing Passwords 2) Attempting to explain the basics of IT usage to members of staff that continually amaze you that they ever managed to get a degree and are entrusted with the education of our future society 3) Fixing some piece of hardware which a kid has decided to vent his anger upon 4) Performing miracles on a limited budget 5) Reading Edugeek

elsiegee40 Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Welcome to the world of EduGeeks! Jake forgot to tell you that you are now responsible for EVERYTHING that has a plug on it! Electrical ones anyway (the sink plugs will have been pinched by kids long ago!)
randomconept Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 the sink plugs will have been pinched by kids long ago!) LOL they also pinched the mouse balls
mrtechsystems Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Congrats not funny but it true lol My Advice learn learn learn and keep posting on Edugeek lol ( No I am not getting paid to say this ;-)
starscream Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Put it this way bud, your learning curve with me more like this l than this / It is fun and you will learn so much! I work in primary schools so can't comment on the seconary scene. You will love some of the questions from staff! Also what I like to do when you have fixed something really simple is to make it sound like it was a huge job and get all complex on them. Vice versa, if you have a huge job that lasts forever and it does your head in you try to spend as little time as possible explaining it to them! Works both ways The best thing about primary is the holidays! It's the only reason I am still in this position after 3 and a half years!
mattx Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 The best thing about primary is the holidays! You get the holidays ? I've got the hump now.....
plexer Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Just relax and do what ever you can, if you can't do something or don't know something don't try and BS just say sorry I don't know but I'll find out. starscream Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 The best thing about primary is the holidays! You get the holidays ? I've got the hump now..... Yeah but my monthly wage packet reflects this somewhat, but I think "so what, at least I get 13 weeks holiday a year!" It's not all good either as it means I can't take time off in term time and package holidays are well expensive during the school hols. The job suited me as I had been in full time education what with a-levels and uni and got the job straight from graduation. Will be weird when I progress in my career and start working the summer! OMG WHAT WILL I DO????!!! The best thing is that we only worklike 6 or 7 weeks in between holidays so it is a slog to each holiday but well worth it!

Ben Ah, now see I never admit defeat, I see things I don't know or can't do as a challenge, rather than say I don't know I will run off and figure it out, I have only so far had 1 or 2 things I haven't been able to do and even then there are work arounds. I have made a few mistakes in my time but shhh, what people don't see people don't care about. ....overall of course I offer a professional value for money service
