Hi all

 

I have a problem with a view sonic pjd6221, when you try to power up the projector the blue light comes on but nothing shows on the screen, I have checked the blub in another projector and it works fine.

 

Does anyone have any ideas why the projector is not displaying anything?

Has your laptop/computer detected the projector and vice-verse?

it does not get that far it does not even show a splash screen

So you get no menu options when you select it from the remote?

nothing comes on at all. Only the power light comes on and the lights on the LAN port

Do you have any options at all on the remote for menu's?

If you are using Vista or W7 you could try typing in 'Connect to external display' in the search box to see if the projector is being picked up by the computer.

as you can see by the pictures the power light is on and there is lights on the lan port but nothing comes out from the bulb at all not picture at all.

Hmm. Are you trying to connect to it over LAN or VGA?

i am trying to connect via the VGA

OK, what you need to do is to see if Windows detects the projector. Plug it in and run the 'Connect to an external display' wizard. Can you see the projector listed besides the laptop display (you should see a second screen shown)?

I have included a screen grab of more than one display being listed on my office computer as an example.

Oh, and I would try powering down the projector before connecting (ensuring the laptop is switched on and fully booted) and then start it up.

ok i did what you said it picks up the projector but still nothing comes out of the projector at all

perhaps the lamp ballast has gone, it may not show any symptom but it won't strike the lamp.

OK, you need to click on the second display labelled '2', and if possible check 'Make this my primary display' then click 'Apply'. As you are using XP it can be a little tricky to sometimes convince it to use another display.

oaktech is the lamp ballast some inside the projector or on the bulb itself? i have used a different bulb in this projector that i know works.

I think that possibly it could be something like @Oaktech mentioned. Anyone else here got advice for hardware faults?

Oh, how old is the projector/bulb (if you know)?

the projector is two years old and it is still on its original bulb

Yeah, the ballast is in the projector and is the bit that keeps the lamp arc from running away and melting down, if it has expired the lamp won't create an arc and therefore there will be no light. When you try to turn the projector on with a known good bulb, if you listen close to the case does it make either a series of ticking sounds and then silence, or a series of buzzing sounds and then silence or a tick then a buzz several times, or none of the above?

when you turn it on it clicks twice then does nothing after that, there is a buzzing noise coming from the projector when it is on.

I would suggest then that the problem is one of two things, either the High Tension part of the power supply, or the ballast. Either of those things would offer the symptoms you are experiencing, and either of those things are pretty terminal and probably not economically repairable.
