Hi,

We are thinking of getting 4 x netbooks for our new library.

If I buy one with Windows 7 start, can I just put Windows 7 pro on it?

Can you buy laptop trolleys just for 4/5 netbooks ?

Thanks

You can buy Windows 7 Pro licenses, wipe the netbooks and install as new (recommended).

For five netbooks, a trolley is going to be expensive and wouldn't be worth it. I think the smallest is around 12-15 units.

In order to run Windows 7 Pro on them you will need at least 2GB RAM - check that and ensure you have the option to add RAM to them if they haven't already got the 2GB.

You would be amazed how may people don't check this. :)

Hope it helps.

May be worth sticking extra RAM in to bring them up to 2Gb each as well, if they're not already - makes a difference on Win7

EDIT: curses, ninja'd :ohwell:

We run 7 Pro on various workstations and laptops with only 1GB of RAM

It is possible yes but not ideal - hence why they only put starter on them to begin with.

If I were you I would add RAM you would be amazed at the difference.

Bear in mind that Win7 has clever shenanigans where it uses spare RAM as a cache to speed the loading of various things. RAM never goes unwasted.
