Recommended way to set up 2 DNS servers for a LAN (1 Pri AD Intergrated, 1 Secondary)

What is the recommended way to set up 2 DNS servers on a LAN, both DNS servers are also Active Directory Domain Controllers?

 

What would you configure in each ones LAN connection settings (Primary DNS, Secondary DNS) with said recomended setup?

 

Done a bit of research but not found anything conclusive :-(.

The two DNS servers here (also both DCs) have their network properties the same as anything else - i.e. their DNS servers are, effectively, themselves. You then set up the DNS forwarders on those servers (in the DNS snap in, iirc) to whatever your ISP has provided or Google DNS, if you fancied.

DC1:

192.168.1.1 (itself)

192.168.1.2 (secondary)

Any external DNS

 

DC2:

192.168.1.2 (itself)

192.168.1.1 (secondary)

Any external DNS

 

If the servers are physically apart and the link goes down, they'll still work without any problems. There are other methods, but I have the above setup in various locations and it works fine

Yep the forwarders are pointing to the ISP's DNS.

 

I am still Considering making both DNS servers primary AD integrated so both can update zone.
