how to get rid of this man

hi all

i have a very important question to ask all

 

on msn messenger i came across a person who added me he got very abusive and was trying to get my personal details so i blocked him then 10 (min) later i was on my forum when a new registered user came on so i checked the registered details of the account bingo it was him from msn so i sent him a kind message saying (hi please leave this forum or i will be forced to take action and suspend your account)

(he replied no )

so i suspended him and ip blocked him as well

i said to my self thank god he's gone

then i got a new user again so i had a look at this new user and its him again

 

can someone help i have suspended him and ip blocked him and he is still haunting me what else should i do :?

He will get bored before you do at moment he see's it as challenge to try and find away around your measures while you attempt to block him out he will try more.

 

Once he has had enough and given up just go through your logins and delete them.

So a complete stranger contacted you on MSN and you didnt bother blocking him straight away?

 

Sorry but you must know him or he knows of you. There are some right idiots on the internet but I find it rather unlikely a complete stranger has guessed your MSN address and then miraculously guessed your forum URL as well

Russ is right. Ignore him. He'll get bored. It's just like a school bully, they do it because they're looking for a reaction, for as long as you give him one, he'll keep coming back. Don't even acknowledge his existence. If he posts crap, simply delete them, don't even enter into a discussion. They eventually go & look for a new target, seen it time & time again.

 

A good old phrase is - Please don't feed the troll.

I agree wholeheartedly with the advice given up there.

 

You could try banning his new account then turning on manual approval for new members on your forums though. If you don't approve him, he can't post.

I'd file an abuse report with the ISP for good measure (but I can be petty!), someone was being pretty abusive on a charity who work alongside the government (so they watch us, as do BBC News!). Ignoring didn't work, deleting didn't work, so in the end I banned them and reported them to their ISP. Haven't heard much more!

 

Last lot of MSN abuse I had was when some paedophile was chatting up my 12 year old sister, so I put in report through CEOP.

About 3 months later 8O the local police force phoned up to say they'd found out who it was and passed it onto the Met Police as he lived in London.

 

Probably best bet is report to Microsoft, and ISP abuse report - if you think it really warrants it!

I've had issues like that before callum. Also things to do with e-mails from strange people etc.

 

The best was when I caught someone out posting comments about my sex life and then gf on my website. It made them angry cause they didnt think i'd be able to trace them down. Silly silly people...never underestimate the power of the geek!

I had the particular web app used set to record IP address and i traced it back to the upstream proxy at my school. That and no one at any of the other schools om the LEA would have known the stuff that they posted so i knew it came from my school.

 

Then it was a case of tracking proxy logs etc.

If you must feed this troll or want to find ways to avoid future muppets you'll need to spend some time installing and tweaking some anti-spam style mods/hacks on your forum.

 

For phpBB2 I've found that the following help:

- iplogger

- proxy blocker (or at least something that ID's proxy users)

- anti-spam

- cback's crackertracker is useful too (see miserable user function )

 

... beyond that you need to allow time to observe habits of your troll(s) and learn things like keywords, preferred email domains, etc.. then tweak your filters and ban lists accordingly.

 

 

As everyone has said though it ultimately comes down to ignoring the daft little twerp, attribute the attitude to everything from lack of sex life, inability to satisfy wife, GF, etc.. or just lack of power.. These idiots live for power though so if you ignore them and don't react publicly to their actions they get bored and move on to a much easier target...

On a more interesting note the content that my troll posted was jealousy to do with my gf. His obviously repressed homosexuality made for some interesting discussion with various people.

I had actually forgotten about the "amuse yourselves by talking about the troll in the third person, do you hear anything? I can't" way although this just gets them mad.. but it's always fun as a last resort

Exactly. It's even more fun if you know them in real life and can make them suffer a bit for acting a pratt on your forums/guestbook/whatever

Email or phone them. abuse@$isp.tld$ is usually a good place to start.

to find out his IP simply turn on IP logging on your forum.

to find out who owns the IP address (hopefully his isp and not a proxy) an NIC lookup should help.

 

Assuming they've not marked their info as private of course.

After that, you'll be able to contact the ISP however you can. Be sure to tell them the exact date + time that they were on and what the IP address was.
