Netwacky87 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Hey chaps, Installed a new motherboard today, got everything plugged in...switched it on and all it sits at is the boot logo saying "FoxConn" Press Tab for post...Del to setup etc etc etc It doesnt go any further and i cant get to the BIOS or anything, anybody got any ideas? Cheers Mart
Midget Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 unplug the hard drives, infact unplug EVERYTHING except the mobo, cpu, RAM, (gfrx card if not onboard) and vdu cable and then see what happens and of course the PSU/power cable if you are being funny.
Netwacky87 Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Yeah i have already done that :s with no luck.....
Midget Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I'll be honest FoxConn are cheap for a reason, they're 5h1te and I would not recommend them to anyone. Try it without RAM and see if it'll at least get you to the "U HAZ NO RAM LIKE INNIT" message. Does yours have the diagnostic panel? either a small light array giving numbers or a bank of LEDs ? If so, then compare what that is saying against the manual's diag page.
Netwacky87 Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Oh Deary Deary Me...Took the RAM out and it just beeped (screamed) at me and put it back in and still nothing.... Think its "messed up" lol
binky Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Foxconn only just started making their own motherboards, but if you have a dell or apple pc, you will find that they designed the motherboard. They are also the OEM for iPods, Xbox 360s, Wii's, PS2s and the PS3.
Midget Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 All of which have reliability problems. btw they also make the PCBs for several HDDs
PeterW Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 What model is the mainboard, also what CPU and Ram are you using? Don't suppose you have a post probe It is true that Foxconn arent the best as they are still finding thier feet designing boards themselves, they do have a deffinate cost advantage as they also manufacture alot of the actual components that go on boards and their main business is contract manufacturing for tier one brands.
everton4europe Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 I have had a foxconn board which would not boot if it had 2 sticks of ram in. took one stick out and it worked fine.
Netwacky87 Posted June 2, 2007 Author Posted June 2, 2007 Motherboard: 945G7MA-8KS2 RAM: (Dont know brought from PCWorld) CPU: Intel P4 3.0ghz socket 775 Yeh i did try and reset the BIOS but still nothin think its f***ed!!!
crc-ict Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Motherboard: 945G7MA-8KS2 RAM: (Dont know brought from PCWorld) CPU: Intel P4 3.0ghz socket 775 If you don't know what the RAM is can you be sure it's the right stuff? If it's not compatible, that might be why the machine doesn't work. Also, have you checked there are no jumpers to set the CPU type - a FoxConn board I used was almost jumperless, except for one which needed to be set for particular models of CPU.
