How much are people paying a month for leased line and at what speed ?

Down here in rural Oxfordshire we are looking at £1314pcm for a 10mb connection on 100mb bearer

However your in Hull (I think) so you get Kingston Communications so your doomed for sure

Here in very very rural Devon we have just signed up to 30mb on 100mb bearer £19Kish per year, plus a hefty install fee.

Mid/North Devon... miles and miles from anywhere. Waiting on BT laying 2k of fibre to get us hooked up at present.

many of the exchanges up there do tend to be rather expensive for fibre unless your near Bidrford / barnsaple, then its not to bad. i guess you looked at EFM?

With our server room you'd want servers on site . we're actually looking at having a offsite backup location now we have the connection to support it.

I'm not being obtuse, but I don't understand. We have a really good server room setup and our 10GbE blade chassis is probably excessive, so why wouldn't you outsource the servers? Once you have worked out the intricacies of offsite DR would you consider doing just that?

No - almost certainly not. For instance we will have around 1100 devices on site accessing files/our internal moodle and other resources. We have a huge amount of video/audio as well due to our specialism. For instance we have a 60tb replicated SAN just for video editing with 10gb uplinks. Our connection is good enough to move some stuff offsite, but we're so heavily invested in onsite provision for a lot of things that it's not feasible for us to totally get rid of our server rooms!

That is a good insight. What are your ip traffic stats esp wrt moodle ? We have 900 devices onsite (another 200 next year) but don't get close to bandwidth limits. I don't have video over FCoE or ICSCI though.

I wonder has anyone tried a WISP (Wireless ISP) connnection instead? I understand that most of them are fairly regional and need line of sight but I've just connected up with one and it was ludicrously cheap for the connectivity and the contention is incredibly low. I just wanted to understand if this is a viable option for schools? I hae dealings with some governors in schools that are very rural and with the CC dropping the schools network next April there is a lot of head scratching going on currently. Pro's and cons comparred to what seems like very expensive options (£19K 30Mb being the extreme)?
