tech_guy Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 ....the first person who can find a link to the correct driver for HP Part Number 602993-001 - it's the Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter. HP India have done my head in and the RealTek website is useless.

sparkeh Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Read a few more threads on this, it appears that the part number does not match the description From Wireless upgrade on dv7-3065 - HP Support Forum As I review Chapter 3, the only 5.0 GHz card you can get is the Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter part number 602993-001. When I enter the part number in the Parts Store, I am very skeptical that is is the same part. It doesn't mention a/b/g/n or the Bluetooth part and I find it hard to believe that it is only $21.xx I would call HP first before ordering the card because I don't think that is the right part number they have in the manual.

I've found DriverPacks has helped with so many of the no driver available kind of things that I've solved that it's now my first port of call if I don't have an original drivers disk)

tech_guy Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 According to HP support in India we have the correct part number but they can't tell us where the driver is on the HP site. They keep telling us to use the 8188CE driver which is useless as it doesn't provide the .11a functionality that the 8188BC8 card has. How difficult is it to tell us where the driver is for a part they have supplied?!

Any chance this is what it is? Because that's a 8188CEB8... It's close enough to the model number you have to make me think it's a mistake. Plus: Compatible with the following models: HP P/N: 602640-001, 602993

tech_guy Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Those 8188CU drivers work with the card but there's no .11a functionality which is what we were promised by HP. They said the card works with .11a networks but they can't tell us where the right driver is. It's very frustrating.

tech_guy Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Peeling the sticker off the card reveals 8188CEB8 underneath and 602640-002 as the part number. Now I'm confused and mildly irritated. All we want is something that will work in a HP 630 and allow us to see our .11a network. FFS.

You may have enabled the narrowing of search parameters but it was, infact, me that supplied drivers. Therefore, the beer is mine.
