Papercut - Print Management

Hi,

 

Ive been tasked with cutting down a printing bill.

 

We have gone from 25 printers, laser and ink jet to just 8 laser, no inkjets and 1 networked photocopier (locked down with user codes, and allocation of credits for both copying and printing)

 

But ive been asked to now make even more savings. As since we have now locked down the copier, people are bypassing by printing to the more expensive laser printers.

 

What i needed was a solution that would be fairly cheap and easy to setup and work across both widnows and mac.

 

I have singled out papercut, but was wondering what others were using, and if using papercut how you find it, how easy to setup? and most importantly, has it saved money?

We use PaperCut but we do not use it to control printing on Macs.

 

It was easy to set up and is easy to update.

 

Their helpdesk is, er, helpful.

Papercut is good, easy to setup and you can tweak it as you monitor your useage.

 

We make our lasers expensive to rpint to but our MFPs free to pursuade people to print to them instead.

We are hoping to achieve this, making our cheapest option, the copier in black and white free, in the hope that, nearly all printing will get sent to this, have either of you noticed a drop in cost? or just a lot of hassle of people wanting more money/credits?

We're using PaperCut to monitor/restrict printing. We've only had a few kids come to us that have run out of credits. Staff have unlimited credits, but all the printers have restrictions set, preventing them printing class sets of worksheets to laser printers and 100 page course specifications etc! This has encouraged the teachers to use the photocopiers more

Yeah there has definitely been a drop in the toner costs since we have had it.

Papercut is great, it actually shows the individual users how much they are blowing on their frequent tree killing rampages.

papercut is pretty good.

 

If you combine it with a managed print service then you should be able to drive down the monthly costs.
