Uploading Webcam Images Automatically to website

Hi!

 

We've got some building work going on at school, and we wanted to be able to stream a live feed to our school website for the pupils and parents to watch. Unfortunately, I've been struggling to manage this, if anyone knows of any simple walk-throughs, I'd appreciate it. (The biggest probably has been acquiring a WLAN address for the camera, which is an IP camera. As the people who manage our server won't allow us to have it. /sigh)

 

We have managed to get images uploaded to our ftp for the website however, but this leaves us with another problem. We're not sure how to make sure that the most up-to-date image gets posted, and to make it update automatically every five minutes (when a new image is captured).

 

Any help would be amazingly fantastic. =D

Can ou not set the camera to almays make the image name the same and overwrite the previous one - the code will then simply load the updated image!

The software doesn't seem to have a function like that - not that I can find anyway, and not within the manual either. Unless it's possible to use another type of software that will do the job. At the moment we're using the software that came with it. The camera is a FOSCAM IP Camera... Not sure if that helps at all.

I did something like this via scripts.

 

IIRC I ran a bunch of scheduled batch files to achieve the goal. I think it was complicated by the fact that our lot don't allow various ways to just display "whatever the most recent picture in folder X is", so the photos had to be renamed. I've found the batch files, and if I can remember how it all hung together I'll post them. Probably not have time today, and you'll probably have a better answer soon anyway.

 

OTH, if your website isn't hamstrung by the LEA I'm pretty sure that I found various ways to code a web page to display whatever the latest picture in a folder is.

The problem you'll have is without an IP to the cam where are you getting the images from? Do you have any access to the camera from within the network? (Confused from your no IP, but you got pics line)

 

If you can get images to your computer/ftp, then you can just run an autorefreshing page (every 5/10? seconds) that will load the latest image within the directory that the page is running from (website wise)
